Department of Imaginary Affairs, a Canadian national not-for-profit, is seeking new members to join our Board of Directors.
The next few years will be an exciting time of growth for the Department of Imaginary Affairs (DIA). We are looking for engaged board members to play a central role in helping to implement our mission and guide the organization in this time of growth.
We are fortunate to have an incredibly engaged Board of Directors made up of extremely interesting individuals who regularly attend quarterly board meetings, participate in annual board retreats, and spearhead committees providing valuable insight and advice as needed. Our board is strategic in helping the organization develop, supportive and active in our fundraising, board development, and visioning. As a governance board, the primary day-to-day operations are taken care of by our small but mighty staff, with fiduciary oversight as required by the board.
As our core mission is about building a welcoming culture and understanding the evolving definition of what it means to be Canadian from new and developing Canadians, we are looking for individuals who have expertise or personal experience as:
- A newcomer to Canada (lived in Canada for less than 7 years)
- First generation
- Working with newcomers or youth
- Speak another language other than English
Additional desired assets:
- Legal Experience (contract law, intellectual property)
- Sponsorship / donor relations
- Nonprofit governance
Estimated hours of volunteer time: 20 – 25 hrs annually
