Captured Stories
As many of us are on many social networks now, we thought it might be fun to combine Instagram and storying-telling together. We’ve put together a list of themes and ideas that we want you to capture over the next 9 weeks and post in Instagram or Twitter. Think of it as a community scavenger hunt!
What will be happening and how can you get involved?
Each week we will post a new theme that we want you find in your East Side neighbourhood and take a photo of it. A dedicated page will be published for the weekly challenges in our East Side Story project at Scotiabank Nuit Blanche on October 3, 2015 in St. James Park. The photos will be selected weekly to have it featured on the ‘Instafeatured-gram’ page. Here’s how to take part:
- SNAP – Focus in and take a picture
- TELL – Tell us why you took the shot. Don’t forget to tell us where it is!
- SHARE – Upload your photos to Instagram or Twitter and tag us: @dia_space / #imaginaryTO
Weekly Themes
- June 29 – July 5: Something new
- July 6 – 12: Something old
Our intrepid intern Linda was sent out to tackle the list. What she has discovered brought back childhood memories and thoughts about her community. She realized that many individuals take advantage of their neighbourhoods, communities, and their surroundings. When stumped on the list, she was more mindful and had greater appreciation at what her community had to offer.
Here are some captured shots from Linda’s adventure…
- Something Breathtaking: “Toronto, the downtown core. One of many advantages from living on the East Side is this view. Hands-down the best place of the city!” – Broadview Avenue / Riverdale Park
- Something Changing: “The ‘revitalization’ of Regent Park. The loss of the physical aspect of what the community had to something new. This theme really hits home. Yes my community structure is changing but there is the uncertainty of what it will become. That scares me the most”. – River St. and Dundas St. East
- Something You and Community: “For this one I had to combine the two themes. My community is part of who I am. Regent Park is where I grew up. It helped develop who I came to be and what I am doing now”. – Regent Park
