At the Department of Imaginary Affairs
We are imagining equitable futures through care and community-based design.
We are on a mission to revolutionize the social impact sector towards collective liberation.
We understand that all too often, the individuals and organizations who are most deeply impacted by systems of oppression are left out of writing their own narratives, designing their own outcomes and imagining alternative futures. The disconnect reinforces the very gaps and challenges that the social impact sector aims to close and address.
We offer people-centred services designed to meet the moment head-on and work through the problems standing in our way of more equitable futures.
Come Work & Learn with DIA
We make these offerings available to individuals and organizations who share our work of imagining equitable futures and understand that we cannot build them alone.
We design our offerings and engagements as invitations to imagine alternative futures, to move more honestly, to question deeply and to practice bringing our imagination into reality. We work with organizations and individuals who are navigating change and uncertainty while balancing hope and grief simultaneously – you are not alone in this work.
We are here to be learning partners alongside you in your journey, on the pathway to collectively equitable futures.
Within each of our offerings, we practice 4 core skills:
- Telling the Truth
- Weaving the Micro and Macro
- Holding & Metabolizing Contradictions
- Practicing Curiosity
These are not skills that we teach or preach about, they are the skills that shape how we show up and how we stay rooted to what matters. In every offering and engagement, we bring our expertise and experience designing and facilitating with tools from anti-racism and anti-oppressive frameworks and liberatory practices combined with foresight, systems thinking, relational infrastructure and emergent strategy.
The offerings and engagements we share here are what we are asked to do most, they represent the services we are trusted and expected to offer.
That being said, DIA is a learning lab first and a nonprofit organization second, we are constantly practicing new worlds and new ways of being which bring about new offerings.
Many of our offerings emerge from a combination of nagging questions, rumblings about what is possible and frustration that requires clarity. If you are feeling a sense of confusion or aloneness in your work, we invite you to follow that instinct to see if we might be the learning partner for you.
For Organizations
We work alongside organizations as learning partners and guides through complexity. We work with you to discover the answers you need and co-create steps to generate clarity for the path forward. We have supported organizations through research, strategic coaching, immersive facilitation, foresight exercises, systems thinking and liberatory practices.
While we know that many organizations are going through changes, not all organizations approach uncertainty with intentional pauses and recalibration. We work best with organizations who recognize that there are no off-the-shelf one-size-fits-all solutions to bring us closer to collective liberation. If you’re curious about your readiness to take the next step, reaching out to us is the first step.

For Individuals
Our individual offerings are for people who are ready to go deeper—into their own transitions, their professional practice, or the company of others who are also doing the work. From one-on-one coaching to structured learning journeys and relational community gatherings, we offer support that meets you where you are and moves with you toward where you want to go.
We work with individuals who are seeking deeper connections – into their own work, personal and professional practices, and/or yearning to be in community with others who are also doing this work. We offer one-on-one coaching, shared practice offerings and relational gatherings and retreats. Each offering allows for you to hone your individual way of doing this work.
Partnership
At DIA, partnerships shift relationships beyond transaction exchanges and surface level agreements. Our partnerships are rooted in shared goals, resources and desire to learn. We partner with individual artists, change-makers and practitioners, organizations, collectives, academic institutions, funders and government departments.
Partnerships are the core to doing more together than we can apart. We partner on systems transformation, care and community-based design, participatory engagement, immersive futures, strategic foresight and so much more. We are open to building sustainable and nourishing partnerships.
